Items to send for your tax appointment.
All returns will be prepared remotely this year to protect the safety of our clients and employees. We are providing our clients with the option to mail, email, upload or drop off your documents at our Boston location. We ask that we receive all your tax documents at least three days prior to your scheduled appointment. We will call you at your specified appointment time to discuss the results of your returns.

We will take the time and effort to analyze your specific tax circumstances to identify potential tax deductions and recommend tax saving strategies. To ensure the preparation of your tax returns goes smoothly, please bring the following items to your scheduled tax appointment. Note: Do not send thumb drives. If you choose to mail us your tax documents, please only send hard copies. If you choose to email us your tax documents, please only send one PDF document of all your applicable tax documents.
- If you are a new client, please send physical copies of your 2021 federal and state tax returns.
- Please prepare a cover page with your current address, day and evening phone numbers, your email address, your occupation, your social security number and your date of birth. If you’re married, please indicate your spouse’s legal name (as listed on social security card), occupation, social security number and date of birth. If you have children, please provide each child’s legal name, date of birth and social security number. On the cover page, kindly indicate the states you lived in during 2022 along with the dates you lived in each state.
- Please provide a copy of your driver license and a copy of your spouse’s driver’s license if you’re married.
- Your applicable
W-2 forms, 1099 forms, interest income, dividend income, K-1 forms,
pension or IRA distributions forms, brokerage account forms and student
loan interest forms.

Please summarize your itemized deductions including: medical expenses, auto excise tax, tax preparation fees, custodial fees, financial planning fees, interest on mortgages and home equity loans (bring applicable forms 1098), mortgage insurance premiums, real estate taxes, casualty and theft losses, investment related subscriptions, uniforms, cash and non-cash charitable donations (bring receipts for non-cash donations), safe deposit box fees and unreimbursed job related expenses such as job seeking expenses, cell phone charges, tools, luggage, online fees, trade journals, travel, meals and entertainment.

If you sold stocks or mutual funds, please prepare a spreadsheet
showing the date you bought “each” item that was sold
along with the total purchase price of “each” item sold.
Note: Do not assume your cost information is provided on Form
1099B. Please carefully review all your stock sales on form 1099B to
ensure you have the purchase date and cost information for each stock
or mutual fund sold during the year. Please provide all 1099B forms to
your appointment.
- If you converted a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA, please indicate the amount of any applicable after-tax Traditional IRA contributions you made over the years.
- If you qualify to deduct your graduate school expenses, please summarize how much you PAID in tuition and books DURING 2022. Note: amounts paid for tuition may include loans credited to the University DURING 2022. If applicable, please supply how much you received in scholarships or fellowships DURING 2022. Please send Form 1098T (Tuition Statement) and all your actual tuition billing statements for 2022. You can also send in receipts for computers and peripherals you purchased for school during 2022. Note: Form 1098T (Tuition Statement) represents tuition BILLED during 2022. This is NOT always the number we use. You can only deduct the amount of qualified tuition PAID during 2022. Please also provide the amount of any tuition which was reimbursed by your employer. Finally, send a copy of your most recent resume.
- If you paid for dependent care expense, please provide each providers
name, address, federal identification number or social security number
and the amount paid to each provider. We will also need the names of
each child that was cared for and the total amount paid in child care
expenses for each child. If you have a nanny and use a nanny tax service
to handle the employment taxes, please provide your completed Schedule
H.
- If you were self-employed during 2022, please prepare a simple ONE page income statement which summarizes your gross self-employment income during 2022 and your applicable expenses categorized and summarized by the type of expense (i.e. advertising, equipment, supplies, etc).
- If you owned rental property during 2022, please prepare and include a simple ONE page income statement showing the gross rental income you received during 2022 and your applicable expenses categorized and summarized by the type of expense (i.e. advertising, mortgage interest, real estate taxes, repairs, maintenance, condo fees, etc). We’ll also need to know when you started renting the property, how much you originally paid for the property less the value of the land on the purchase date and the FMV of the property less the value of the land on the date you began renting the property. We’ll also need to know the total number of days the property was rented in 2022 and the total number of days you personally used the property in 2022.
- If you are deducting
a portion of your home for business use, please calculate the square
footage of the area used for business. In addition, we will need
to know the date you began using the space for business, how much
you originally paid for the property and a summary of your utility
expenses (gas, electric, oil, condo fees, landscaping, snowplowing,
maintenance, etc), major home improvements and direct office expenses
(repairs, business phone, etc).
- If you live in Massachusetts, please summarize the rent you paid during 2022 and your landlord's name and address.
- Please summarize your moving expenses. You can only deduct the cost
to move your household goods, storage
and the one time trip to make the final move to your new location.
- If you did not live outside the United States in 2022 and you had foreign financial assets (i.e. bank accounts, brokerage accounts, foreign partnerships, etc.) where the total value of your foreign assets was more than $50,000 ($100,000 if married) on the last day of the tax year or more than $75,000 ($150,000 married) at any time during 2022 you will need to complete and bring Form 8938. - If you are a foreign national on a F-1 or J-1 Visa, please send a copy of your VISA and passport and summarize the following information on a separate cover page:
- Your permanent address where you are a citizen.
- Your F-1 / J-1 VISA number.
- The actual dates entered / left the United States in 2022.
- The number of days you were in the United States for the following years: 2020, 2021 and 2022
- Please include a cancelled check so that we can obtain your direct deposit information.
- If you made any estimated tax payments for 2022, we will need to know the date paid and amount paid of all federal and state estimated tax payments.
- Finally, please provide us with any other official tax documents you received
